About

Obscure References (formerly Gardyloo Comics) is created by a group of friends. Each has their own style of art and humour. There’s no main theme but there are a few running jokes. We’re pretty much just trying to make ourselves laugh.

Gardyloo [gah(r)-di-'lu]

  1. A phrase originally Germanic in origin, Gardyloo was used as a synonym to “Hello” or “Good-Morning” and enjoyed great popularity through the 1800′s. Ironically, the word was also used as an exclamation of triumph during sexual intercourse.
  2. A tropical bird, discovered in early 2004, that is known for its cackling laugh and playful nature.
  3. An obsolete underwater swimming stroke. The Gardyloo stroke is believed to have originated in Norway during the 16th century but quickly fell into disuse due to its high correlation with drowning.
